How significant is the role that the media has in politics?
After going through all of my research, I have found that the role the media is playing in politics is constantly growing as the years go by. The pieces that I looked at all seem to build off each other in the rapidly growing world of political media. As journalists dive deeper into the personal lives of politicians, they violate common ethics and diminish any form of decency they may have had in their careers as journalists. This invasive journalism plays a role in how influential the media is on the general public. A story that has nothing to do with a particular politician's campaign may stain their reputation and weaken their ability to gain a following. One scandal has the power to turn people's heads away from the political points and steer them in an entirely different direction. The scandalous stories are accompanied with celebrity endorsements and soon campaigns are purely superficial. It is here that the reliability of what we, the population of the United States of America, see and hear in the news is taken into question. News stations rely on comedy shows to get their cues on how to report and it is hard to tell what is the truth and what is an extended joke. With the addition of so many new forms of media, politics seems to be drowning. As I see it, the media controls everything that happens in the political world and this is only the beginning.
